5 Essential HABBITS FOR BUSY PEOPLE

If you want something done, give it to a busy woman right?  Isn’t that how the saying goes?  It’s no secret that us ladies think we can take it all on, but at what cost?  Do you end every day in a shattered heap with your head spinning with undone tasks and already at a loss as to how you are going to get through tomorrows list?  Do you hit the sugary snacks to keep the energy levels up or hit the microwave meal and a glass of wine (or 2?) as you sit at the computer catching up with e-mails at the end of a long day?

Here are five top health tips to boost your energy levels and manage your hectic schedule more effectively  (Actually, I know you probably know you these things already, but do you actually DO them??  I cannot reduce your ‘to-do’ list, but I can guarantee, that if you follow these tips, you will have more energy.

1. Exercise—Your Secret Weapon

No, its not selfish – it’s vital.  Who gets more done – a fit, healthy, unstressed woman or one who is tired, stressed and constantly on a diet rollercoaster?  Taking time to fit some exercise in sounds like a luxury, and definitely something you’ve no time for, but try to squeeze in a minimum 3 x 30 min quality exercise sessions a week and you will see your productivity soar.

You can even break this down into 3 x 10 min slots in a day to see results (check out other resources here or on my YT channel for simple 10 min sessions or #giveit10 ‘habit snacks’)

2. Prioritise Sleep

A good night’s sleep is foundational to a productive day, but easier said than done. If you’re well-rested, you’ll complete tasks more efficiently and effectively. For new mums or those with irregular schedules, improving sleep might involve creating a pre-sleep routine or optimizing your sleep environment for better quality rest.  During my 12 Month Healthy Habits course - we spend a whole month working on getting you the best sleep of your life!

3. Hydration is Key

Most people are chronically dehydrated without realising it.  Make it a habit to drink at least 1 liter of water per 20 kg of body weight daily. Hydration affects everything from your energy levels to your cognitive functions, so keep a water bottle handy and sip throughout the day.  I’ve written a whole other post about water, check it out HERE.

4. Nutrition Matters

Your body does not crave chocolate, it craves nutrients!  This is a book in itself, but basically there are 3 things that are stopping most people from losing unwanted body fat and improving their health.

  1. Blood sugar levels that are are all over the place.

  2. A body full of toxins.

  3. Hormones that are seriously out of whack.

Optimising your health has NOTHING to do with pounding the streets or the treadmill for hours, 30 day ‘shreds’, reducing calories, counting calories, counting points or any other of these crazy plans.  It has everything to do with a balanced, sensible, easy to follow food and exercise plan.  Everything I do here has GOOD NUTRITION at it’s heart.

  • Good nutrition properly controls energy balance.

  • Good nutrition provides nutrient density.

  • Good nutrition achieves health, body composition and performance goals.

  •  Good nutrition is honest and outcome based.

  • Good nutrition is sustainable for both the planet and us.

5. Evaluate and Adapt Your Habits

“Results require rituals.”

It can be incredibly hard to break out of routines you have followed for years, perhaps a lifetime, you may not even realise what you are doing, but if you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got!  Look at your day, block time out for exercise, food preparation, chores and personal care.  Planning ahead is key to managing your time effectively.  Create pro-active habits, not reactionary ones!
